About Lee LaBier
A visual artist for over 20 years, Lee LaBier’s autobiographical, confessional art examines the formation of identity utilizing photography, video and installation.
LaBier operates and owns an arts concierge business, is an artist and curator. She received a Bachelor of Art History Degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton and a BFA in Photography from Metropolitan State University of Denver. Born in New York she currently resides in Denver, Colorado.
Using self-portraits to record her transitioning identity, LaBier attempts to comprehend and express the transformations throughout her life. She investigates its essence. How and why physical realities and illusions are displayed to become representations of our acquired genders and identities.
“It is not only my identity but also how I identify within myself that activated this process.” Her artwork has been shown internationally and nationally.
Opening Reception: March 12, 2021 6-9pm
On View: March 5 – April 2, 2021
Curated by Lee LaBier
I’m thrilled to be invited by Courtney Cotton, Gallery Director, of the new Bleue Tile Gallery to curate the first exhibition concurrent with Month of Photography Denver. This biennial festival celebrates the art of photography through exhibitions and events across the region.
Feel Me, examines the artwork of six exceptional artists utilizing photography to explore an underlying feeling as distinct as the action it brings about. This informal phrase “Do you feel me?” carries with it powerful expressions. During this time of social disconnect, it is even more prevalent, the need to be seen, to be heard and to be met emotionally, physically and mentally. The artists’ personal interpretations of catharsis, expression of sensitivity denied, the power of thought and how at times we can become “unpersons”
is brilliantly approached and realized.
I’m honored to share this exhibition of astounding female artists and collaborators.
